Project Summary

Active aerospace manufacturing facility impacted by releases of PCE and hexavalent chromium. Impacted media include soil and three aquifers beneath the site. Project work involved site characterization, fate & transport modeling, investigation of off-site sources, multi-phase extraction to remove PCE from soil and groundwater, in-situ chemical reduction (ISCR) of hexavalent chromium, and enhanced reductive dechlorination (ERD) of PCE. The regulatory oversight is conducted by the Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board.

The complexity of this project is manifested through a very intricate geologic and hydrogeologic setting involving two perched groundwater aquifers with a very low permeability soil and irregular groundwater flow vectors. In addition, the layout of the facility manufacturing equipment, in relation to the impacted area under investigation, presented an access challenge for investigative and remedial tools.
