REGULATORY AGENCY – Regional Water Quality Control Board, Los Angeles
CONTAMINANTS OF CONCERN – Tetrachloroethylene (PCE), Tricloroethylene (TCE)
REMEDIAL STRATEGY APPLIED – Deep Excavation, SVE, ISCO (NaMn04, Ozone)
SPECIAL CHALLENGES – DNAPL, Vapor Intrusion, Upgradient Source
Former Aerospace Clean Room – Los Angeles, CA
Project Summary
A major historical solvent spill impacting soil and groundwater beneath the project site was remedied using an innovative combination of limited-access excavation by bucket auger, soil vapor extraction (SVE), and injection of oxidants on-site and off-site (ozone gas and sodium permanganate, respectively) underneath active commercial buildings.

The project involved identifying other RPs, including an upgradient source of similar contaminants, supporting client’s insurance cost recovery efforts, performing human health risk assessments, studying preferential pathways for vapor intrusion potential, and demonstrating successful remediation completion to the RWQCB.
