Project Summary
Murex provided environmental planning and engineering support on the redevelopment of a regional shopping center built over historic oil reservoirs. The project required widely varied expertise, including planning & EIR work, public outreach and City council presentations, methane & vapor intrusion assessment, planning for and managing large scale excavation into impacted soils, stormwater mitigation measures, and negotiations with the Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board and the City of Manhattan.

The primary obstacle for the progress of this project was the changing requirements imposed by the City due to political and community opposition issues. Murex support in this process by giving multiple technical presentations to City Council and the members of the public, gaining community support, and following the planning-level groundwork with innovative public safety features in the designs.
